This past year was a good one for the Estevan Exhibition Association (EEA), according to president Dallas Spencer.

The EEA held its annual general meeting on January 20. Spencer said those who attended the meeting had the chance to reflect on the past year, review the fiscal situation and elect new board members.

The financial statements showed that the EEA had a surplus of about $2,700 in 2013, thanks to $265,000 in revenues, and a little more than $262,000 in expenses.

The fair and the rodeo accounted for most of their revenues.

"The expenses were up a little this year because we purchased all of the new panels for the rodeo arena, and we reseated the bleachers, so that cost us more money than in a normal year," said Spencer.

Spencer will remain president of the EEA for another year. Chad Ross will be the first vice-president and George Poage will return as the second vice-president. Five new board members were elected at the annual meeting, and they will inject some new blood into the organization, Spencer said.

The EEA has several plans for 2014. The organization is looking to refurbish their riding barns prior to when Estevan hosts the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games. Equestrian events will be held at the exhibition grounds.

Spencer said they're looking to apply a fresh layer of tin or paint for the barns, and new fence for the perimeter of their property. The fence project might need a couple of years to complete.

The big events in 2014 will once again be the fair and the rodeo. The fair will take place June 16 to 18, with the domestics show happening in conjunction with it.

Estevan Idol has happened at the same time as the fair for the last 11 years, but Idol does not have an executive producer for 2014, and so the EEA might look at different entertainment options for the fair.

The annual Rumble in the Dirt cabaret will be June 14.

Dates for the rodeo will be September 5 and 6, and there will be several events during the rodeo weekend, too, he said.
