Family centre hosting comedy night

The Estevan Family Resource Centre will be hosting a comedy trio, Puck 'N' Funny, for an upcoming fundraising banquet.

The event will happen on Saturday, February 22 at the Beefeater Plaza in Estevan. Doors will open at 6 p.m., supper will be served at 7, and the performance begins at 8. There will be silent and live auctions.

Puck 'N' Funny is comprised of comedians Mike Dambra, Paul Voisard, Mike Simmonds, and they offer sports-themed comedy. Family resource centre coordinator Colleen Macmillan said the trio typically performs at sports fundraisers, but they agreed to perform for the centre.

It will be a sports-themed night, too, as the items available in the auctions will be connected to sports.

She said it is fitting that the event will happen while the 2014 Winter Olympics are taking place in Sochi, Russia.

The family resource centre typically has its biggest fundraiser of the year in February. Macmillan said people were hoping that there would be a comedy night this year, because the centre has had comedy fundraisers in the past, and the centre's supporters enjoy events in which they can laugh and have a good time, while supporting a deserving cause.

Proceeds from the benefit will be used to maintain the free programs that the centre offers. Without these fundraisers, Macmillan said they would have to implement user fees.

About half the tickets for the fundraiser are sold, she said.
