Estevan will soon be home to an Inner Wheel Club.
Inner Wheel is affiliated with Rotary International, but the organization is for women only. Acting local president Terry Williams says that at one time, members had to be Rotarians, or related to Rotarians, but now Inner Wheel is open for all women.
The only requirement is that women have to be invited to attend.
“We are the sister group (of Rotary), and we will help Rotary with their events, but it's a more social club,” said Williams. “Rotary is about service. The Inner Wheel gives ladies a chance to have an evening out, some enjoyment and raise a little money for charity.”
The Inner Wheel is the largest women's club in the world, Williams said, as it has more than 100,000 members.
The club's first meeting in Estevan will be held on Thursday, January 23 at St. Giles' Anglican Church. Their guest speaker will be Jackie Marum, who is a cake decorator. Women who attend the meeting will be able to attempt the cake decorating, too, as there will be a different activity each meeting.
Inner Wheel members will meet monthly. The activity will determine when the meetings will take place.
There is a service component to the Inner Wheel, too, as they're raising money for vouchers for families who are staying at a Ronald McDonald House in the district, which encompasses Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Williams will be the acting president for Estevan until the club is officially chartered. She is the vice-chair of the Weyburn club – which has about 25 members and is the sponsor club for Estevan – and she is the vice-chair for the district.
Estevan is the district's eighth club.
