A benefit will be taking place for Kevin Steffensen and his family on Saturday, January 18 at the Wylie-Mitchell building in Estevan.

Steffensen, a local man and a married father of four, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer.

Lori Gervais is a long-time friend of Steffensen's wife, Tammi, and Gervais has spear-headed the benefit. She said she is hopeful that the event will be well-received, as proceeds will be used to offset Steffensen's medical expenses, and to meet any other financial needs facing the family at this time.

Doors will open for the fundraiser at 5 p.m., and supper will be at 6 p.m. Local rock band Shattered will play that night, and there will be a Dutch auction for a Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

Gervais said organizers have received an abundance of donations that will be used to raise funds for the Steffensen family, and they are trying to decide how they will be auctioned off. She is contemplating selling some merchandise in a silent auction the night of the fundraiser, and having a Facebook auction for other items.

“It's overwhelming, and it's wonderful the stuff that people have been willing to take their time to donate,” said Gervais.

Tickets sales have been strong, Gervais said, and tickets will be available at the door.

Gervais said Steffensen is doing as well as can be expected, as he battles cancer and recovers from brain surgery. She added that the Steffensen family is trying to stay as positive as they possibly can.

The family is very appreciative of the support that they have received in recent weeks, Gervais said.

Those who want to support the family can also do so through a trust fund that has been set up at Estevan's Scotiabank branch.
