Big 6 season resumes

The Big 6 Hockey League has resumed play following the Christmas break, and while poor weather conditions scuttled games on January 3 and 5, a number of games have been played.

Three games happened on January 4. The Bienfait Coalers upped their record to 11-0 with a 4-2 victory over the Oxbow Huskies. The Arcola-Kisbey Combines edged the Redvers Rockets 7-6, and the Midale Mustangs throttled the Carnduff Red Devils 9-4.

Midale won again on January 7, beating the Arcola-Kisbey Combines 7-4, while the Wawota Flyers upended the Oxbow Huskies 6-5 in overtime.

Bienfait continues to lead the league with 22 points, but a tight battle is happening for second spot. Oxbow (6-5-1) and Arcola-Kisbey (6-6-1) are tied with 13 points; Midale (6-4) is fourth with 12 points and Wawota (5-5-1) is fifth with 11 points. Midale has two games in hand on Oxbow and three in hand on Arcola-Kisbey.

Wawota has also played fewer games than the Huskies and the Combines.

Carnduff (4-7) is sixth with eight points, and Redvers is seventh with seven.

Three games are slated for each of January 10 and 11. The match-ups on the 10th are: Oxbow at Wawota, Midale and Redvers and Carnduff at Bienfait. The games the following day are: Arcola-Kisbey at Carnduff, Redvers at Wawota and Oxbow at Bienfait. All games will start at 8 p.m.
