Hundreds of Filipinos received a hearty Christmas meal late last year, thanks to the generosity of local residents.

The Filipinos were served through Young Focus' second annual Feed a Family Christmas Party. Estevan's Tareina Hunt is working in the Philippines through Young Focus, which is a humanitarian organization.

Hunt has spear-headed Feed a Family twice. She has issued a plea to Estevan area residents each year to support the event, and local residents have supplied enough money to feed about 700 people, and to send them home with groceries.

Two Christmas suppers were held on Smokey Mountain, which is where Young Focus has two buildings – one for its Child Care program, in which malnourished babies are fed, and another for the Child Care Plus pre-school.

Smokey Mountain is an impoverished area of Manila that was constructed on the site of a former garbage dump.

Two more suppers were held at Young Focus' Student Centre, which is for upper elementary school, high school and college students.

Hunt has been in the Philippines since mid-December. She'll remain in the country until the middle of February.

Hunt also spent six months in the country in the final few months of 2012 and the first few months of 2013.
