The federal government has announced funding for upgrades to Torquay’s arena and two other facilities, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Our government’s investments in community infrastructure are helping to create jobs and boost economic activity that results in modern, safe and accessible community facilities,” said Souris-Moose Mountain MP Ed Komarnicki.
Torquay has experienced growth in recent years due to the strength of the Bakken oil field.
“Small communities like ours struggle to meet operational and maintenance costs,” said Torquay Mayor Michael Strachan. “Major renovations like these are out of reach without significant fundraising efforts and investments from senior levels of government.”
Milestone’s arena and Lang’s campground will also receive grants.
A total of $63,450 will be split between the three communities.
The government expects that the funding will encourage greater participation in local sports and outdoor activities.
