Torgunrud receives an award

Jordan Torgunrud was the Estevan Comprehensive School's recipient of the Governor General's Award in 2013.

Torgunrud averaged 97.5 per cent in her Grade 11 and 12 classes. She was also the school's valedictorian in 2013.

Torgunrud is presently studying at Minot State University. She is majoring in chemistry with a minor in math. Her specialty is in geology, and she is also tackling environmental research with one of her professors.

The Governor General’s Academic Medal is presented at four levels: bronze for the secondary school level, collegiate bronze at the post-secondary diploma level, silver at the undergraduate level, and gold at the graduate level.

It is handed out to the student who graduates with the highest standing in his or her institution.

Torgunrud was presented with the award at an assembly in late December.
