The winners have been announced in the Community Futures Sunrise's YouthBiz entrepreneurship contest.

Alexandria Kuntz and Jennie Neufeld from Macoun School took top prize for Descriptive Writing for their idea of Cones de la Zone, which is an ice cream shop.

Kristina Brasseur and Sophie Clarke from Midale Central School won the Achievement Award in Customer Service for their entry, Crystal Clear, which is a dance wear and makeup business.

Leah Macfarlane of Carnduff finished third in the overall Grade 6 to 9 division for her business, Simply Fair Trade, which is a café and retail outlet that focuses on the fair trade concept.

Awards were handed out to the top three overall finishers in the Grades 6 to 9 category and in the Grades 10 to 12 group. Also, honours were handed out to the entry that shows the best entrepreneurial spirit, and the submission with the most outstanding bonus material.

YouthBiz is a business competition designed for Grade 6 to 12 students in the CF Sunrise area. The contest promotes entrepreneurship and financial literacy, and fosters a connection between young people and business.

To enter YouthBiz, students created a business idea, developed a framework using the YouthBiz guide, and submitted the entry.

At least one of the entries was a business that is already operating.

The contest attracts numerous entries each year.
