The Ridge is almost ready for homes

The Ridge subdivision south of Estevan is nearly ready to have modular homes. It's expected the first homes will appear in January.

Modular homes could start to appear in early 2014 at the Ridge subdivision in south Estevan.

Developer Kurtis Dmuchowski from West D Construction said sales have been going well.

“I'm placing an order today for a few more units,” said Dmuchowski.

Between 60 and 65 of the 85 lots that were available in Phase 1 have been sold. They were gobbled up by investors who will rent the properties to companies, who will then use the homes as accommodations for their employees, since many businesses have had a difficult time finding shelter for their workers.

The remaining units in Phase 1 are being held for potential owner-occupiers.

“We haven't sold any to owner-occupiers as of yet, but we're confident that once we get a show home on the site, which will be in mid-January, and local individuals can walk through a home and get a feel for it … that we'll start selling to local owners-occupiers in Estevan,” said Dmuchowski.

Interest remains high for the development, Dmuchowski said. He's receiving inquiries on an almost daily basis, and once the Christmas holidays are finished, he expects the volume of calls will rise.

The first modular homes should be on site, and ready for occupancy, in mid-January.

“They're waiting to be installed,” said Dmuchowski. “We were hoping to start installing in late December, but with the cold weather and the Christmas holidays, I decided that we would wait until we get back in January.”

Dmuchowski also expects that sales will begin at some point in 2014 for Phase 2. There are 165 sites available, and he said there will be a greater focus on owner-occupied modular homes.
