The Estevan Bruins entered the Christmas break on a winning note, as they defeated the Notre Dame Hounds 5-4 in a shootout on Friday night at Spectra Place. Keegan Allison and Austin Daae scored in the first period to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead, and Daae scored early in the second for a three-goal advantage. Ian Williams and Sam Aulie tallied to pull the Hounds to within a goal, but Ben Johnstone scored for Estevan to give the Bruins a 4-2 advantage after two periods. Ryan Donovan scored early in the third to leave the Hounds within a goal, and Williams’ second of the game with two minutes remaining in the third sent the game to extra time. Nobody scored in overtime, but Johnstone and Tanner Froese converted on their shootout attempts to lift the Bruins to victory. The Bruins (15-13-2-3) sit third in the Viterra Division with 35 points. They’ll return to action on December 30, when they visit the Weyburn Red Wings. Then they’ll host Weyburn on New Year’s Day at 3 p.m.
