Carol festival offered variety

Sharon Elliott played her harp during the Rotary Club of Estevan's Christmas Carol Festival.

Talented performers and energetic choirs were part of the Rotary Club of Estevan's annual Christmas Carol Festival December 15 at St. Paul's United Church.

A total of 16 acts were part of the evening.

The festival opened with a performance by the Southeast and the Northwest Chrouses; the Trinity Lutheran Church choir; a quintet of Stacy Grunert, Everett Schwab, Matthew Grunert, Sandra Bazin and Hearther Beaulieu; and music from the St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church children's choir.

Sharon Elliott provided a different element to the festival, as she played a pair of Christmas selections on her harp.

Flutist Sandra Bazin, guitarist Stewart Miller, trumpet trio Everett Schwab, Matthew Grunert and Jake Spilchuk, and singing duo Linda Holden and Graham Penny showcased their talents. Then the audience joined together for a community carol sing.

Holden and Penny performed solos. The Estevan Comprehensive School's jazz combo – Kyle Goulet, Matthew Grunert, Everett Schwab and Kyle Whitehead – offered their spin on a couple of Christmas songs. Choirs from Lampman Elementary School and St. Paul's church demonstrated their vocal talents.

The evening concluded with the St. Paul's choir and local Rotarians teaming up to sing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."

Proceeds from the carol festival will be directed to local school band programs.
