Members' show at the EAGM

The artwork of Sheila Farstad and other local artists is on display at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum through a member's show.

The Estevan Art Gallery and Museum (EAGM) is celebrating the talents of local artists during their first-ever members' show.

EAGM members were each invited to submit a maximum of two selections for the show. Nearly a dozen artists participated.

"In doing so, the gallery walls become a platform to celebrate the diversity of skill and range of mediums the local artistic community is engaged with," according to the statement for the show.

Painting, photography, graphic art, mixed media, textiles, sculpture and artists' books are among the different mediums in the members' show.

Themes range widely, too.

"There are works displayed that invite us to reflect on spirituality, vibrant portraiture or fantastical dream worlds," the show statement said. "They hint at narratives embedded in abstract forms, present familiar scenes with a sense of the uncanny, or mediate on the simple beauty of everyday objects."

They all ask for contemplation and reflection on the skill of the artist's hand, the aesthetics of the image or the suggestion of narrative.

The EAGM wants to make art, culture and history accessible, meaningful and vital to its diverse audiences, the statement says. It hopes that the members' show can become an annual tradition at the EAGM.

A reception happened in late November in conjunction with the Estevan Arts Council's adjudicated art show. About 100 people were in attendance.

The show will remain on display until December 20.
