Greens urge caution on fracking

Comments

Dear editor,

The Green Party of Saskatchewan (GPS) is asking the Brad Wall Government to use precautionary principles on hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” now that Newfoundland and Labrador has banned the practice.

The Saskatchewan government should be extremely cautious. If the Wall government is for fracking, then either Energy Minister Tim McMillan or Premier Wall should be ready to compensate any landowner who loses their water supply or incurs other damages as a result of this activity.

The provincial government’s support for fracking will only impede Saskatchewan’s transition towards green energy. The old ways of powering the economy are changing. We should step into the future, not stay trapped in the past.

Victor Lau

Green Party of Saskatchewan Leader
