Local men once again sported mustaches throughout the month of November as part of the Movember campaign.
According to the Movember website, there were 90 people in the Estevan area who participated, and they raised thousands of dollars. Jay Pierson was once again the top local fundraiser, as he brought in $1,620. Rick Matte was next with $1,595.
Pierson was the captain of the top fundraising team, the MoPo – Estevan Grow Your Mo, as they brought in $4,895. The SETI (Saskatchewan Energy Training Institute) Yeti generated $4,493.
Canadians raised more than $28.55 million through Movember, which was the most of any country. The United Kingdom was next with $22.55 million, and the U.S. was third with more than $20.1 million.
The total number of Canadians participating was 173,205; only the U.K (254,882) and the U.S. (219,319) had more.
There were more than 962,000 around the world through Movember this year, and they raised more than $102 million.
Proceeds will be directed to organizations involved in fighting prostate cancer and creating awareness for men's mental health issues.
