The Carnduff RCMP and Saskatchewan's Prairie Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) have charged a 46-year-old male from Montreal with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, in connection with an incident that happened in North Dakota in April.
The male is alleged to have facilitated and assisted with the smuggling of five adults and three children from Quebec into North Dakota via the Saskatchewan/U.S. border south of Carievale. The U.S. Border Patrol apprehended the eight individuals shortly after they entered the U.S.
The joint investigation involving Prairie IBET, Carnduff RCMP, the U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Homeland Security lead to the discovery of a smuggler for hire operation based out of Montreal.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the male, and the Canadian investigation is ongoing. The eight smuggled individuals have been dealt with according to U.S. law.
