Estevan Police Service members have laid charges in connection with an assault that took place on Saturday night involving bear spray at a residence in the east side of the city.
Charges of assault with a weapon have been laid against a 33-year-old male and a 22-year-old male, both of whom are from Estevan.
The younger of the two accused is also charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Several people were in the residence when the bear spray was deployed.
The investigation into this matter is continuing and further charges are pending.
In other police news, officers were called to a local lounge on Sunday night after a fight broke out in the parking lot. A 52-year-old male was arrested as a result. He was later released to the care of a family member. This incident is also being investigated.
Police laid charges for impaired driving and driving while over .08 after observing the driving actions of a 39-year-old male on Saturday night. Officers subsequently stopped the vehicle the accused was operating and took him into custody. He will appear in court on December 16.
A 36-year-old male was charged for suspended driving, and had the vehicle he was operating seized, after police conducted a traffic stop. He will appear in court on December 16.
While on patrol, police located and arrested a 26-year-old male who was a suspect in a home invasion that was reported on October 24. He is now facing charges for the home invasion, for assault with a weapon and two charges of uttering threats. He has been placed on a number of conditions and will make a court appearance on December 16.
A 22-year-old male was charged with possession of a controlled substance after police conducted a traffic stop and located a small amount of marijuana in his possession. He will also make a court appearance on December 16.
Police responded to a parking complaint. A query of the two plates showed both were unregistered. The vehicles were towed off the street.
Officers attended to a 911 hang-up call at a local rink. It was discovered that some younger children were playing with the pay phone, dialed 911 and hung up.
Police received two complaints of barking dogs. The owners were warned of the noise bylaw.
A 41-year-old female was arrested and is facing charges for breaching the conditions of her undertaking, after police were called to a disturbance at a local hotel on Friday night. She was released from custody once she was sober.
An investigation into a missing vehicle was resolved when police located the complaint’s vehicle being operated by friends. The driver of the vehicle did not possess a valid license and was charged accordingly. Alcohol was also noted to be in the vehicle, which led to a charge under the Alcohol Gaming Regulations Act. The vehicle was turned over to its owner, who was not interested in pursuing additional criminal charges.
Police are also looking into a matter involving a crosswalk sign that was damaged. The sign was located near a business on 4th Street. A suspect in the matter has been questioned and the incident remains under investigation
Police were called to a pair of noise complaint on Friday night. The first was at a residence in the Westview area. The owner was warned of the city's noise bylaw. The other resulted in the host clearing out the party. As the people were leaving, a 25-year-old male began causing a disturbance and failed to cooperate. He was subsequently arrested for breaching the peace, causing a disturbance and public intoxication. He will be released from custody when he's sober.
