The Estevan Power Tech Midget AA Panthers female hockey team won the first two games in their history.
Estevan defeated the host Moose Jaw Warriors October 19 in the Panthers' first-ever game. Cassidy Siebert scored their first goal six minutes into the opening period. After Moose Jaw tied the game early in the second, Lacy Smith and Kailey McLellan scored 95 seconds apart to give Estevan the 3-1 advantage by the midway point of the second.
The following night, Estevan defeated the Prairie Storm 3-1 in the Panthers' home opener at the Civic Auditorium. After a scoreless first period, Jenna Kreklewich and Haley Ronyk scored in the second to give Estevan a 2-0 lead.
The Storm cut the lead in half with three minutes to play in the third, but Ronyk scored an empty net goal in the final minute to clinch the victory.
Litesha Spittal was in goal against Moose Jaw, while Brianna Cote was the winning goalie versus the Storm.
The Panthers will visit the Swift Current Titans for their next two games on October 26 and 27.
The Estevan Power Dodge Bantam A Chargers had a win and a tie on the road in their opening games of the season.
The Chargers opened the season with a 4-4 tie against the Regina Tigers on October 19. Megan LeBlanc had two goals and an assist, including the game-tying goal with 63 seconds remaining in the third. Makenna Morrison and Teanna Sieben were the other goal scorers.
Estevan picked up their first win this season in a 6-2 rout over the Regina Shamrocks on October 20. Morrison tallied twice and had an assist, while LeBlanc had a goal and three assists. Taylor Dukart, Tionna Nashiem and Jasynn Monteyne also scored in the win.
Ashley Taillon was in goal for both games.
The Chargers' home opener will be October 26 against the Tigers at 3 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium. Then they'll visit the Regina Cougars on the 27th.
