First off, please don’t hate me for using the “S” word. I’m not happy about it either, but this year I am determined to embrace fall and not just skip over it like I did last year, when I was in denial that summer had left.
We’re still having some beautiful weather, and unfortunately, it may be the last we have for a while, so here’s a little bucket list to get you taking advantage of our pre-snow weather!
*Picnic in the park: get out there one last time with a cozy blanket, a football and sandwiches for a little picnic. Let the children play on the playground while you sip a coffee, or toss a ball around with them. If you plan it for supper, you can pack glow sticks for when the sun sets!
*Leaf impressions: gather up an assortment of the leaves collecting on your yard, place them under a white sheet of paper and colour over them with crayons or pencil crayons.
*An outdoor movie: fall is the perfect time for outdoor movies, as it gets dark so fast and you can still be outside. Rent a projector and display a movie on a white bed sheet, or just drag your T.V. out to the deck and snuggle up to watch a flick.
*Hike Roche Percee: the rocks at Roche Percee are stunning in the fall. Get your hiking gear on and spend some time exploring and climbing!
*Light saber ambush: Grab your light sabers and ambush a friend’s house just as it gets dark. When they come to defend their home, have an epic battle in the front yard for all your neighbours to see and enjoy. Oh wait…you probably don’t have an artillery of light sabers, so I guess just our family will be doing that!
With the days getting shorter, I find my children naturally just start spending more time indoors, but I’m really trying to do what I can to push them outside, and get their minds thinking of other ways we can take advantage of this weather. Happy last days of no snow!
