The Lampman Recreation Department is planning an event that it hopes will foster community spirit, celebrate the end of harvest and raise some valuable funds.
Croptoberfest will happen on Saturday, October 26 at the Lampman School. Recreation director Haley Ingham said that the recreation department likes to host one event each year that brings the community together.
Croptoberfest will feature a supper, an auction, a comedy act and a simulcast of a Saskatchewan Roughriders game.
“We thought that with such a hard harvest for everybody, that it was time to get together and celebrate,” said Ingham.
They chose the 26th as the date because the Riders are playing an away game. It's an important contest, too, as the Riders will be visiting the Calgary Stampeders.
Doors will open at 4:30 and the Rider game will start at 5 p.m. A steak supper will be served starting at 6 p.m.
The live auction will begin during half-time. Ingham said that if the auction goes long, it might continue into the third quarter, or it could take a break and wrap up after the game. The line-up for the live auction hasn't been finalized yet, but Ingham expects they will have several items.
Comedians BlackSalt and Brenda Q will perform after the Rider game is finished.
A silent auction and a cash bar will also be part of the event.
The funds collected at Croptoberfest will be directed towards the different programs and amenities operated by the recreation department, including the arena, the curling rink, the outdoor swimming pool, a campground, and after school programs and senior programs.
