Highlights from the October 9 meeting of the Estevan Chamber of Commerce:
*The deadline to apply for the latest installment of funding through the Energize Estevan Fund is October 31. The fund offers money to projects that attract people to the community and promote the city; in the previous funding allocation, the Collage Cultural Festival was the lone recipient. The Estevan Hotels Association supply money to the fund through their tourism levy.
*The trip to China promotion that the Chamber was backing had an excellent response, as 20 people will be heading to the Asian country on October 23. They'll return in early November. Most of the activities will be of a tourist nature.
*Advertising forms are being faxed and e-mailed to businesses for the Chamber's business directory.
*The Chamber's second annual pumpkin carving contest will happen on Saturday, October 26. It is happening in partnership with the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum. People are encouraged to enter elaborately-decorated pumpkins into the competition.
*The Chamber will be attending the Estevan Comprehensive School's career fair on Wednesday, October 30.
*The annual Kick-off to Christmas, which is held in partnership with the Downtown Action Committee's Moonlight Madness, will be happening on Thursday, December 12. It will feature in-store specials from downtown businesses, an appearance by Santa Claus and other activities.
*The next meeting is on Wednesday, November 13. Sean Tucker from the University of Regina will be the guest speaker. He will discuss occupational safety management.
