Estevan Police Service members are reminding the public that scams remain prevalent in the community. Another Estevan person has reported that they received a cheque for more money that they were requesting for the item they were selling. The person advised them to take some extra cash and to send the rest back via Western Union.
Local police had to respond to a number of calls during the weekend. A 14-year-old female was arrested Friday night for an alcohol-related offence. During the arrest, the female pulled away from the officer and tried to flee. She was caught again and advised she was under arrest. Again she struggled to get free and tried to run. She was placed in cells and charged with resisting arrest.
Police are investigating the theft of a 46-inch television from a basement suite on the southwest side of the city.
Officers received a call from the hospital, as someone dropped off an intoxicated young male. The person was being belligerent, and police arrested him and lodged him in cells until sober.
Police charged a male with assault after he pushed his fiancée into the wall of their residence.
Members received a call of an assault in progress. Members went to the residence on the northeast side of the city. It turned out to be a heated disagreement. One family member went home and the arguing ceased.
Police attended to a parking lot on the northeast side of the city due to a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was witnessed being driven at a high rate of speed. It hit the curb and went over the median into the parking lot, causing severe damage to the vehicle. Police arrived and an off-duty officer had the driver under control. The person was arrested and charged with impaired driving, driving while over .08 and driving without due care and attention.
Officers assisted EMS with two separate medical emergencies over the weekend.
Police are investigating an assault that happened just outside a local lounge. The victim went out for a smoke and got beat up. He received several stitches to the face. Officers are asking for the public’s assistance. Anyone who witnessed this is asked to call EPS.
A 29-year-old male is facing several charges after police, patrolling near a local nightclub on Thursday night, noted an altercation occurring. Police determined the intoxicated male had committed an assault on another patron and was subsequently apprehended. The male subject resisted members and police had to use force to take the accused into custody. The male subject is facing charges for assault, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and uttering threats. He was released on strict conditions once he was sober. He will also be charged for public intoxication. The male will make a court appearance October 28.
A 24-year-old male was arrested and lodged in cells after police located him passed out on the street near a local lounge. The accused was lodged in cells and will be released when sober. He has been charged with public intoxication.
A 29-year-old male had his license suspended for 24 hours after police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle he was operating.
A 25-year-old male was charged under the city by-law for urinating in public after police located him urinating on a public street near a local night club. He was then sent on his way home.
While on a traffic stop, an officer detected a strong odor of marijuana. The marijuana was located and the 19-year-old male was charged with possession of under 30 grams.
Police were called to a motor vehicle accident. One person didn’t yield to right of way and was charged accordingly.
