Former Estevan resident Chris Henderson was in Edmonton recently for the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMAs), where he was among the Saskatchewan performers selected to play at a Sask. Music showcase.
Saskatchewan musicians had the opportunity to take to the stage on September 5 and 6; Henderson's turn was on the 6th, when he played an acoustic set of his own music, and joined several other Saskatchewan musicians to play their songs.
“It was very well-timed, because it was during breaks for different events that the CCMA had put on, so it was really nice that a lot of people came down, and we had a really good crowd,” said Henderson.
He was also the Saskatchewan candidate to perform during a fan festival, but he was ultimately defeated by Alberta performer Alee in an on-line vote competition. There was one entrant from each province.
Henderson said it is important at this stage of his career to attend the CCMAs, to meet people in the industry and to show his appreciation for those who have supported his career.
“There's always the other artists that you can connect with, and the label executives are good to chat with as well,” said Henderson.
Henderson is now looking forward to the release of his next album, “My Turn,” which will be available at the end of October or early November. And the first single, “Sure hope he loves you,” will be out in October.
