We have spent the last three months logging countless hours in our vehicle and on planes traveling over our holidays.
I am so thankful for the time that we’ve had to travel together. Something that we’ve come to be thankful for in our years in Estevan has been the proximity to the U.S. Border. I love Canada and am determined to see as much of it as I can, but it’s also nice that some really beautiful places in the States are with in reasonable driving with toddlers distances!
While I’m honestly a bit tired of being in the truck, we do like to plan a mini fall getaway every year to…Regina! Yup, after living there for four years during university, I wouldn’t have named it a getaway spot but now we look forward to our fall weekend there each year.
I love that Regina only involves two hours in our vehicle before we get our hotel for the weekend. We’ve scoped out the accommodations and found a great hotel with the best pool for our age of children that we go to each year.
One of the first things on our list of things to do is biking and blading through Wascana Park. The tall one and the boy one bring bikes and the girl one gets to sit and ride with Dad on the bike seat, while I get to bring out my roller blades for the only time that year. The trails are beautiful, the temperature perfect and the colours amazing to venture through. We pack snacks and can easily spend two to three hours on the trails.
Another stop we like to make is the local Corn Maze. There are pumpkins galore, a massive jumping pillow, tractor rides, petting zoo, a corn box and of course the maze itself. Again, it takes up at least three hours and we have a blast. There is also something to be said for the tradition of it and coming back to a familiar place that is seasonal and special.
So, as your summer winds down and your traveling family stays parked a little more, maybe it’s time for one more little getaway!
