More than 200 entrants were in Estevan on September 6 and 7 for the city's annual stop on the Canadian Cowboys Association's tour.
Semi-professional and novice entrants competed in various rough stock and timed events. Evening performances were September 6 and 7; there was a bonus show in the morning of the 7th that offered several categories.
In the saddle bronc division, Casey Bertram of Piapot was the winner with a score of 81. Ross Kreutzer of Maple Creek and Jeremy Harden of Big Valley, Alberta, finished tied for second with 76 points each, and Wyatt Thurston and Josh Harden, both from Big Valley, were tied for fourth at 75.
In the bareback division, Dustan McPhee of Hanley was first with an 81. Brady Bertram of Piapot and Michael Tuck of Esterhazy were tied for second with a 77, and Colter Harden of Big Valley was fourth with a 72.
Steve Maddison of Carman, Manitoba, had the only eight-second ride in the bull riding competition. He had a score of 71.
Dawn Goebel of Grenfell won the barrel racing event with a time of 17.03 seconds. Christine Ross of Botha, Alberta, and Erin Hagan of Virden, Manitoba, finished tied for second with a time of 17.19 seconds, while Kerry Maynes of Maple Creek was fourth at 17.31 seconds.
In tie-down roping, Cody Getz of Balgonie had the best time at 8.9 seconds. Shane Brown of Virden, Manitoba, was second at 9.1 seconds, Lonnie Brown, also of Virden, was third at 10 seconds, and Blake Gagnon of Innisfail, Alberta, was fourth at 10.9 seconds.
Justin Kurtz of Coaldale, Alberta took top spot in the steer wrestling with a time of 4.9 seconds. Jeremy Harden had another second place finish with a time of 5.3 seconds. Justin Miller of Cessford, Alberta was third at 5.6 seconds, and Charlie King of Virden was fourth at 5.8 seconds.
Matt Switzer of Yorkton and Blaine Switzer of Swift Current had the top time in team roping at 6.5 seconds. Scott McLeod and Tuftin McLeod of Waldeck were second at 6.8 seconds, Tyler Blanchette of Vawn and Dave O'Donnell of Cut Knife were third at 7.2 seconds, and Tyrin McCuaig of Bengough and Bart Spencer of Estevan were fourth at 7.3 seconds.
In the novice categories, Chase Bourque of Pelley won the saddle bronc with a score of 66. Tyler Fouhse of White City had the only other eight-second ride; he was second with a 62.
Lane Link of Maple Creek won the novice bareback event with 64 points. Danny Vanden of Langenburg was second at 59, Patrick Gravelle of Bengough was third with a 57 and Mason Helmeczi of Esterhazy was fourth with a 54.
Matthew Leippi of Kronau and JB Moen of Elrose finished tied for first in novice bull riding with 68 points each. Darrick Smart had the only other eight-second ride. (Hometown and score were not available).
Kassidy Williamson of Mankota took top spot in junior girls barrel racing at 17.33 seconds. Nicole Pana of Wood Mountain was second at 17.35 seconds, Elizabeth Lukacs from St. Paul, Alberta, was third at 17.43 seconds, and Jayden Wilson of Gleichen, Alberta, was fourth at 17.66 seconds.
