The second annual Dr. Neil Howard Memorial Dog Jog will be happening on Sunday, September 22.
Registration for the event will be at 1 p.m. at the Estevan Shoppers Mall's central entrance, and the walk will begin at 1:30. Participants will walk to the Kensington Greens Park and then return to the mall.
Lunch will be served and prizes will be handed out after the Dog Jog is finished.
People are asked to collect pledges for the Estevan Humane Society in order to participate. Those who don't fundraise can pay a $10 registration fee on the 22nd.
Many people opt to walk their dog, said event spokesperson Jane Howard, but they have also had participants who don't have a pet, or those who have walked an invisible dog.
She said there are typically prizes for collecting the most pledges, creating the best dog costume, having the best invisible dog or winning an owner-dog look-a-like contest.
Prizes already secured include a curb bike from Power Dodge and a skateboard from XS-iV Sales.
Proceeds will be directed towards the humane society's animal shelter.
Dr. Neil Howard was a founding member of the humane society in 1994, and he provided veterinary care for animals at the shelter and in the community for over two decades. He passed away in 2005.
Last year the Dog Jog, which has been a fundraiser for the humane society for many years, was named after Dr. Howard in honour of his service.
Jane Howard said the Dog Jog is a good way for people to raise funds and awareness of the shelter.
