The Southeast (SE) Chorus is looking for singers who will be able to join them this fall.
The choir joins with the Northwest Chorus, which is based out of Crosby, N.D., to perform the annual Celebration of Christmas music concerts in Estevan and Crosby during the first week of December.
The first rehearsal this year will be Tuesday, September 17 in Crosby, and the sessions will continue on a weekly basis each Tuesday until the night of the performance. SE Chorus members meet up at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church at 5 p.m. so that they can be in Crosby in time to start rehearsing.
Participants are asked to attend at least 75 per cent of the practices.
SE Chorus president Karen Melle said there were about 30 people from the Estevan area last year, which means they comprised at least half of the choir.
Benefits of joining the choir include fellowship with the singers, a chance to meet new people, the high-quality choral selections and the chance to sing in front of an audience.
"It challenges you a little bit on some of the levels with some of the vocal numbers that you sing," said Melle.
There's also the ability to sing in an international choir, which is unique in Saskatchewan, she said.
This will be the 41st year in which the Southeast Chorus has been involved with the Celebration of Christmas Music. A few SE Chorus members have participated in most of them, Melle said, and they have quite a few members who have been there for at least a decade.
