The Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 48-25 in the annual Labour Day Classic. The Bombers had an 18-14 lead at half-time, but they were unable to hold the lead. Saskatchewan quarterback Darian Durant attempted 35 passes and completed 24 for 315 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. The Riders record is 8-1, which is a franchise record, and their next game is against Winnipeg in the annual Banjo Bowl.
Other scores from Week 10 were: the B.C. Lions got past the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 29-26, and the Calgary Stampeders beat the Edmonton Eskimos 37-34.
In the NFL's pre-season, the New England Patriots got past the New York Giants 28-20 in a close game. The Patriots will open the regular season against the Buffalo Bills.
Other pre-season scores were: the Detroit Lions beat the Buffalo Bills 35-13, the New York Jets got past the Philadelphia Eagles 27-20 and the San Francisco 49ers hammered the San Diego Chargers 41-6.
In NCAA Football, the Florida Gators beat the Toledo Rockets 24-6 in a one-sided game. The Gators took 10 penalties for 70 yards. Florida’s record is 1-0 and their next game is against the Miami Hurricanes
Other scores from Week 1 were: the Ohio State Buckeyes beat the Buffalo Bulls 40-20, the Miami Hurricanes hammered the Florida Atlantic Owls 34-6, the Oregon Ducks took out the Nicholls State Colonels 66-3 and the Boise State Broncos lost 38-6 to the Washington Huskies.
In NCAA Division 1AA Football, the North Dakota State Bison upset the Kansas State Wildcats 24-21. The Bison’s record is 1-0 and their next game is against the Ferris State Bulldogs.
In International Rugby, the Qantas wallabies lost their second match of the Rugby Championship 47-29 to the New Zealand All-Blacks.
