The Southeast (SE) Connection Sport, Culture and Recreation District is promoting upcoming events and programs.
A recreation practitioners' meeting will happen on Thursday, September 12 at Spectra Place in Estevan, beginning at 10:30 a.m. It's an annual event for recreation directors, facility managers, municipal staff, pool managers, programmers, park personnel and fitness instructors to come together to share information and learn what others are doing in community recreation.
The next event will be a Meet the Funders workshop on Tuesday, September 17, in Estevan and Indian Head. These sessions will offer advice on how to improve grant proposals, enhance grant writing skills, learn about the grants that are available, and network with presenters from various funding agencies.
The session in Estevan will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Estevan Public Library.
SE Connection is also coordinating the Active After School Initiative to increase capacity for children’s physical activity in after school programs. The effort, funded by the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association’s Enhanced Member Support Initiative, is focusing on building the capacity of southeast communities to offer accessible opportunities for children ages six to 12 to engage in physical activity during the after school hours.
Organizations in southeast Saskatchewan are eligible to apply with a main focus on increasing physical activity within an after school program. Recipients will be provided funding plus training and ongoing consultation.
SE Connection is also encouraging communities to host an event through Culture Days, which is a collaborative, nation-wide effort to increase awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement by all Canadians in cultural activities in their communities.
Culture Days will run from September 27 to 29. The Collage Cultural Festival is slated to happen in Estevan from September 27 to 29.
The Souris Valley Museum, the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum and the Estevan Public Library will be teaming up to host Culture Days events locally on the 27th.
