The Estevan Chamber of Commerce's Pure Energy Motorsports Weekend in Estevan will offer a bevy of activities, many of which are connected to local racing.
All three of Estevan's motorsport organizations will offer events, and there will be a show-and-shine, too.
"The Pure Energy Weekend is an event that we put on to feature racing Estevan," said chamber marketing and events coordinator Rebecca Howie. "We do have three racing tracks in Estevan, which is pretty unique in Saskatchewan."
It's the one time each year in which all three levels of racing will have events in the same weekend, Howie said.
The Pure Energy Weekend starts on Friday, August 23, with a program at the Estevan Motor Speedway. It will be the speedway's track championship night, as the season champions in the modified, stock car and hobby stock classes will be crowned.
The racing will begin at 7:30 p.m.
A show and shine will happen on August 24 at 10 a.m. on Fourth Street between Souris Avenue South and 13th Avenue. Classic vehicles and motorcycles will be on display.
"It's a fun event and it's good to get the kids out," said Howie.
A People's Choice Award will be handed out this year, so people are urged to pick up a ballot from a Tourism Estevan representative on site at the show and shine.
Other highlights will include a balloon animal artist, matchbox car races, a matinee showing of the movie "Turbo" at the Orpheum Theatre, food and more.
Local merchants will have sales during the day, Howie said.
Also on the 24th, the Trackside Motocross Association will be hosting its first of two programs in Estevan this year at their track east of the city. The qualifying heats will begin during the morning, and then the final races will happen in the afternoon.
The Pure Energy Weekend will wrap up on the 25th with the final program of the year for the Estevan Drag Racing Association (EDRA) at the Estevan Airport.
Time trials are slated to begin at 10 a.m., with racing starting at 1:30 p.m.
The Emergency West Wheel Stander vehicle will be appearing at the show-and-shine, and it will make a couple passes down the airport's runway for the EDRA program. Howie said it's really neat to watch the wheel stander.
