Novice Bruins win tournament


The Estevan Novice Tier II Bruins won their home tournament March 9 and 10.

The Estevan Novice Tier II Bruins went 4-0 to capture their home tournament, which was held March 9 and 10 at venues in the city.

Estevan opened the tournament with a 9-3 rout over Manitoba's Virden Southwest Dragons. Conner Terness had a hat trick, and Blayze Siebert scored twice for Estevan, who built up leads of 4-0 and 7-1. Ty Hoste, Bodan Dukart, Alec Waldegger and Kylar Gingras also scored.

Estevan continued to roll with a 7-3 win over the Moose Jaw Sharks in their second game. Hayden Lavoie had two goals to lead the offence, and Siebert had a goal and two assists. Terness, Kaden Chrest, Levi Kienke and Ty Hoste were the other scorers.

The next two games were closer. Mason Fichter and Gingras scored less than three minutes apart in the third period to lift Estevan to a 3-1 victory over the Yorkton Terriers. Lavoie had Estevan's other goal, and also contributed an assist.

Estevan finished the tournament with a 5-2 victory over the Weyburn Wings. Lavoie had a hat trick for Estevan. Terness and Nathan Wagstaff also scored.

Tallan Howie was the winning goalie in all four games.
