Players confirmed for Rider game; fundraising banquet

The list of Saskatchewan Roughrider players who will be coming to Estevan for the Rider Pride Hockey Challenge has been announced.

The event will happen on Sunday, March 17 at Spectra Place.

The challenge features 10 Rider players who will be in an exhibition game against a team of local celebrities. Several more Riders will be acting as coaches.

The Riders who will be playing in the contest are fullback Neal Hughes, wide receiver Jordan Sisco, slotbacks Chris Getzlaf and Scott McHenry, offensive linemen Chris Best, Brendon LaBatte, Dan Clark and Ben Heenan, defensive back Paul Woldu and punter/kicker Chris Milo.

Also playing for the Riders' team will be Rider employees Jordan Wall and Dan Plaster, and a local youth who will be the "SaskCanola Kid." Estevan Chamber of Commerce executive director Michel Cyrenne will be the Riders' goalie.

Serving as coaches for the Rider team will be running back Brandon West, defensive back Eddie Russ Jr., offensive linemen Xavier Fulton and Patrick Neufeld, and defensive linemen Keith Shologan and Brent Hawkins.

Playing for the Estevan squad will be representatives from the Estevan Police Service, Estevan Fire and Rescue Services, the Estevan RCMP, Estevan City Council, Penta Completions Estevan Minor Football and the Estevan Chamber of Commerce.

Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. There will be an autograph session beginning at 1 p.m. Face-off time is at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets will be available at the door but people are encouraged to get tickets in advance at Henders Drugs or the Spectra Credit Union's Estevan branch. Admission is $10, except for children five and under, who get in for free.

A game in Melfort earlier this winter attracted about 1,500 people, and Estevan would like to top that number.

Proceeds from the game will be directed to minor football and the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs football team.

The Estevan Football Family – which includes ECS football and minor football – has also announced the guest speakers for their annual fundraising banquet April 13 at the Days Inn Plaza.

Receivers Weston Dressler and Geroy Simon and Riders head coach Corey Chamblin will be the guest speakers for the banquet. for the Beefeater Plaza. Michael Ball will emcee the event.

Dressler has been with the Riders for the past five seasons, and has established himself as one of the premier receivers in the league. Simon, who is the CFL's all-time leading receiver, was acquired by the Riders from the B.C. Lions in the off-season.

Chamblin is entering his second season as the Riders' head coach.

In addition to the speakers, there will be a live auction, silent auction, ticket drop and door prizes.

Tickets are $75 each.  Tables can be reserved with the purchase of eight tickets.
