The St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation has high hopes for its second annual Radiothon for Life, which will take place on Wednesday, March 20.
The event will be at the Estevan Shoppers Mall, and it will be broadcast on CJ 1280 and Sun 102.3 FM from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be updates on the radiothon, and segments about the hospital.
Physicians, nurses, patients and others will share testimonials about the care offered at St. Joseph's. There will also be success stories on the impact of the equipment that has been purchased through donations to the foundation.
“We've had a lot of interest,” said foundation executive director Roxy Blackmore. “We've had a lot of phone calls regarding donations, and there's a lot of excitement.”
Schools have been doing fundraisers, she said, and have been looking for unique ways to support the foundation. A $10,000 contribution from Canadian Natural Resources Limited served as the kick-off for their corporate campaign.
The focus of this year's radiothon is the operating room. Blackmore said they'd like to purchase two new operating tables and a new sterilizer machine. The total cost is more than $100,000.
“Anything over and above that, there's always a need in every department, so the money would be well spent,” said Blackmore.
The inaugural radiothon last year raised more than $100,000. The money was directed towards the purchase of two new anesthetic machines.
