Nine teams in three different divisions were at the Estevan Curling Club on March 9 for juvenile regional playdowns.
Brayden Stewart of Maryfield won the boys' event to qualify for the provincial tournament, which will be held in Shaunavon. Also entered were Riley Wallewein of Estevan and two teams from Weyburn.
Two of the three teams entered in the girls' event also qualified for provincials in Shaunavon: Angela Hookenson of Lampman and Rachel Erickson of Maryfield. Vanessa Murray of Gainsborough also entered playdowns.
The girls' event used a round-robin with each team playing twice. Hookenson was first with a 2-0 record, and Erickson was second at 1-1. The games in the girls' event were closely contested.
Two Estevan teams, Conner Marcotte and Layne Hawrylak, were entered in the open event. Hawrylak beat Marcotte in both games of a best-of-three series to advance to Shaunavon.
Provincials will happen March 14 to 17.
