World Baseball Classic underway

The 2013 World Baseball Classic has begun. This is a 16-team tournament. Japan opened the tournament with wins over Brazil and China. Japan is the defending champions having won it in 2006 and 2009. Canada will open their schedule against Italy. I hope Canada does well this year.
In spring training, the Washington Nationals swept the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 and 7-6. The Nationals are tied for fourth in the Grapefruit League.
In NCAA Baseball, the Florida Gators took two of three games from the Miami Hurricanes. The Gators’ record is 5-7 and they are in fifth place in the South Eastern Conference's East Division.
In NCAA Basketball, the No. 11 Florida Gators beat the Alabama Crimson Tide 64-52. The Gators are leading the South Eastern Conference.
In the NBA, the Los Angeles Clippers lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder 108-104. The Clippers are in third place in the Western Conference.
In Major League Soccer, the Toronto FC lost their season opener 1-0 to the Vancouver White Caps. Toronto FC’s record is 0-1 and their next game is their home opener against Sporting Kansas City.
In NASCAR, Carl Edwards won Subway Fresh Fit 500, finishing ahead of Jimmie Johnson. Bobby Labonte started the race in 33rd and finished in 24th. The next race is the Kobalt Tools 400.
In the National Lacrosse League, the Calgary Roughnecks lost to the Edmonton Rush 18-13. The Roughnecks are in second place in the West Division with a 5-5 record.
In the WHL, the Regina Pats got past the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-3 in a shootout. The Pats also swept the home and home with the Moose Jaw Warriors.
In the OHL, the Windsor Spitfires lost to the Niagara Icedogs 9-4 in a one-sided game. The Spitfires are in ninth place in the Western Conference.
