Bruins led Kindersley 2-1

Bruin Alex Cote (11) beats a Kindersley defender for a lose puck during Estevan's 3-1 loss to Kindersley on March 5.

The CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins missed out on their first opportunity to wrap up their Sherwood Conference Survivor Series with the Kindersley Klippers, but still had a couple more chances to eliminate Kindersley.

Estevan lost 3-1 to Kindersley on March 5 at Spectra Place, leaving the Bruins with a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-five series.

The Bruins won Game 1 2-1 on March 2 and Game 2 5-4 on March 3. Those two games were played in Kindersley.

Estevan had another chance to clinch the series Wednesday night at Spectra Place. Game 5, if necessary, will be in Kindersley.

The Klippers opened the scoring 56 seconds into Game 3 on a goal by Ryan Doner. Hudson Morrison tied the game two-and-a-half minutes later with a power play goal.

Estevan had several more chances to score in that frame, but they couldn't beat Kindersley goalie Warren Shymko.

"From about the four-minute mark on, a couple minutes after that goal, we started doing some good things," said Estevan head coach/GM Keith Cassidy.

Kindersley seized the lead early in the second period on a redirection by Stefan Seel. Estevan generated only six shots on goal in the second period, after having 15 in the first period.

"In the second period, we got into some penalty trouble," said Cassidy. "And, for a change tonight, it was legit penalty trouble. We took some dumb penalties tonight. Some of them were the guys trying to be aggressive, which is fine, but some of them were just dumb."

The Bruins had several chances to tie the game in the third, but couldn't muster another goal, and Brandon Lauder scored a short-handed goal for Kindersley with less than two minutes remaining in the third period.

The loss ended a seven-game winning streak that the Bruins had accumulated in the Survivor Series, dating back to 2011. All seven of those Bruin victories had been by one goal.

Curtis Martinu stopped 28 shots in goal for Estevan.
