The Estevan Arts Council has been awarded a Culture on the Go market development grant worth $1,495 from the Saskatchewan Arts Board.
The funds will be used to foster – through a self-guided tour of Estevan and area – public awareness of the identity and work of local artists, thus creating promotion and markets for their work.
The Estevan Arts Council hosted self-guided art tours for the first time last year. Those who took the tours were given maps, and travelled to artist studios and businesses that serve artists in Estevan and North Portal.
The Culture on the Go: Touring and Market Development program aims to help Saskatchewan artists further their careers and share their art, music, literature and performances with people in the province and beyond.
Culture on the Go grants are possible through funding provided to the Saskatchewan Arts Board through the provincial government's Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport.
For the quarter ending December 31, 2012, the Saskatchewan Arts Board awarded over 160 grants to individuals and organizations, with a total value of more than $1.4 million. Grants support a variety of initiatives, including funding organizations that provide ongoing programs in the arts, the creative work of professional artists, community art projects, and the engagement of professional artists to work in schools with students and teachers.
The arts board is celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2013. Its mission is to cultivate an environment in which the arts thrive for the benefit of Saskatchewan residents.
