Team Ontario, who was represented by Rachel Homan, won the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, defeating Jennifer Jones and Team Manitoba 9-6. Ontario picked up three in the seventh end and stole two in the eighth to put the game out of reach. This is Ontario’s first title since 1996. Homan and her team will now represent Canada at the women’s world curling championships in Latvia.
In Major League Baseball spring training, the Toronto Blue Jays split squad beat the New York Yankees 2-0. They also beat the Detroit Tigers 10-3. The other Jays’ split squad lost to the Baltimore Orioles 5-4.
In the National Lacrosse League, the Calgary Roughnecks lost to the Washington Stealth 16-14 in a close game. The Roughnecks’ record is 5-4 and they are tied for first in the West Division.
In NCAA Baseball, the No. 17 Florida Gators were swept by the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. The Gators are in fourth place in the South Eastern Conference.
In NCAA Basketball, the No. 5 Florida Gators beat the Arkansas Razorbacks 71-54. The Gators are in first place in the South Eastern Conference.
In the NBA, the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Utah Jazz 107-97. The Clippers also lost to the San Antonio Spurs 116-90. The Clippers are in third place in the Western Conference.
In NASCAR, Jimmie Johnson won the Daytona 500, finishing ahead of Dale Earnhardt Jr. As for Bobby Labonte, he started in 23rd and finished the race in 15th.
In the WHL, the Regina Pats lost to the Moose Jaw Warriors 4-3. The Pats are in eleventh place in the Eastern Conference.
In the OHL, the Windsor Spitfires got past the Plymouth Whalers 6-5. The Spitfires are in ninth place in the Western Conference.
