Two local teams have been very busy

Estevan's two teams in Hockey Regina have been busy, as their respective seasons are nearly finished.

The Estevan Blue Rock Junior Midget Bruins played four games in a four-day span. They tied the Regina Capitals 6-6 on February 23, lost 2-1 to the Regina Wild on the 24th and 2-1 to the Weyburn Wings on the 25th, and recovered to beat Weyburn 6-2 on February 26.

Estevan had leads of 3-0 and 4-1 against the Capitals, but had to settle for the draw, as the Capitals scored three times in the second, and tied the game with 88 seconds to play in the third. Bailey Lonsberry had two goals and an assist for Estevan, and Ryan Smith added a goal and three assists.

Dayton Westerman, Brandon Hutt and Cole Piche also scored.

Kyle Seipp had the lone goal against the Wild. It came with less than two minutes to play in the game, and it spoiled the shutout bid for the Wild goalie.

Kalen Roche scored for Estevan in the first game against Weyburn. All three goals in that game came in the first nine minutes of the third.

The Junior Midgets recovered to soundly defeat Weyburn on the 26th. Bantam call-up Colton Winton scored twice, and another bantam call-up, Matthew Bill, also scored. Seipp, Westerman and Ryan Stovin had the other goals.

Landon Audet was in goal against the Capitals and in the first game against Weyburn. Brett Friess started against the Wild and in the win over Weyburn.

Estevan's record in league play is 6-11-6, and they'll finish fourth in the standings. They'll close out the regular season with a home game against the Wild on March 2 at 2 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium.

The Estevan Century 21 Bantam A Bruins lost three of four games that they played in a six-day span from February 19 to 24.

Estevan lost 1-0 to the Regina Penguins on the 19th in their first league game in three-and-a-half weeks. The Penguins scored the game's lone goal late in the first period.

The Bruins scored five times in the first period in a 9-6 win over Indian Head on February 22. Peewee call-up Cole Fonstad led the offensive attack with four goals and an assist, while Prestin Bergen had a goal and two assists. Colein Poole, Hunter Piche, Brady Long and Kyle Hertes also scored.

Long and Preston Brodziak were the goal scorers in a 5-2 loss against the Regina Ducks on the 23rd. Both goals came in the second period.

Estevan fell behind 5-1 early in the second period against the Regina Blues on February 24, and then staged a rally, but lost 5-4. Bergen scored twice in the second period. Poole and Piche also scored.

Zack Miller was in goal against the Penguins. Miller and Ethan Veroba shared goalie duties against Indian Head, the Ducks and the Blues.

Estevan was scheduled to visit Weyburn on February 27. (Results were not available at press time).

The Bantam A Bruins record, prior to the Weyburn game, was 14-7-2, which left them in third place. They'll finish off the regular season by visiting Southey on March 2, and the Regina Blues February 3.
