Three teams advance in Big 6

Three teams have advanced to the second round of the playoffs in the Big 6 Hockey League.

The two-time reigning champions, the top-seeded Bienfait Coalers, made quick work of the No. 8 Carlyle Cougars. Bienfait took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series with a 14-1 victory over Carlyle on February 22. Carlyle opted to forfeit Game 3, which was slated for February 23 in Bienfait.

The No. 5 Arcola-Kisbey Combines were the other team to sweep a series, as they defeated the No. 4 Carnduff Red Devils in three straight games. Arcola-Kisbey won the final two games by four goals each, taking Game 2 5-1 on February 20, and Game 3 6-2 on February 21.

The sixth-seeded Redvers Rockets have pulled off the biggest upset thus far, as they beat the No. 3 Wawota Flyers in four games. Redvers took a 2-1 lead in the series with a 4-3 win in Game 3 February 22, and clinched the series with a 4-3 overtime victory in Game 4 February 23.

The one series that was still remaining, as of Lifestyles press time, was between the Midale Mustangs and the Oxbow Huskies. Midale tied the series at 1-1 with a 3-2 victory on February 20. Then they took a 2-1 lead with a 6-0 shutout in Game 3 on February 25.

Midale had a chance to wrap up the series February 27 in Oxbow. (Results were not available at press time).
