Local youth showcased their basketball sharpshooting skills at the Knight of Columbus' annual local Free Throw competition on February 7.
The boys competed at Sacred Heart School and the girls were at St. Mary’s School. They were separated into different age groups. The winners of each age group then advanced to the final round.
In the boys' competition, Aaron Madu from Sacred Heart won the 10-year-old division, Dustin Gerle from Sacred Heart won the 11-year-old group; Tristan Eagles from Macoun School took the 12-year-old division; and Carter Kuchinka from Sacred Heart won the 13-year-old group.
Kuchinka then drained 21 of 25 shots to win the overall boys' city championship.
As for the girls, Nicole Kistanov from St. Mary's School took the 10-year-old age group; Oceanna Michel from St. Mary's won the 11-year-old division; Celia Whitehead of Sacred Heart captured the 12-year-old class; Cierra Naka from Sacred Heart topped the 13-year-olds; and Lanelle Bilokraly from St. Mary's was the 14-year-old winner.
Bilokraly sank 17 baskets to become the overall girls' champion.
District championships will be March 3 at Lampman School.
