The TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club had a good year amid challenging circumstances in 2012.
The organization reflected on the past year during their annual general meeting on February 11. Woodlawn operated as a nine-hole course last year, as the other nine holes were being reconstructed due to damage sustained during the flood of 2011.
But Woodlawn still managed a net income of $68,000, thanks to donations and fundraising, according to president Garth Hoffort. They received money from the Spectra Community Foundation, and they sold the naming rights to the golf club to TS&M Supply for $50,000 per year for the next 10 years.
The number of green fee golfers using the nine-hole course increased as the year progressed, Hoffort said.
The good financial showing during the past 12 months, coupled with the money that they received through insurance and disaster assistance, meant that they didn't have to use the full $1 million that they thought they would have to borrow for the back nine project.
During the annual meeting, the golf club introduced two more classes of membership. The first is a corporate membership, which includes 50 rounds of golf, with a power cart, for $3,000. Different people within a company can use the corporate membership during the season.
The other new concept is a restricted adult membership, which will cost 60 per cent of a regular adult membership. Restricted members can play Monday to Thursday before 3 p.m.
"We're trying to attract some of the seniors back who were starting to think that it was getting too pricey for them," said Hoffort.
An adult membership is $1,000, plus tax.
Membership rates and green fees will increase by five or six per cent, Hoffort said, which is in line with what had happened in the years prior to 2012.
The executive for 2013 was elected during the meeting. Ashley Senchuk and Daryl Donovan will join the board, replacing Diane Thul and Cindy Cull.
Hoffort said the back nine rebuild is on schedule, and it should be ready for play at the start of the season. People are optimistic for the upcoming season, he said, and they're looking forward to playing on a full 18-hole course this year.
