Ensign-Canadian Drilling Sask. has revealed the amount that it has raised through its annual United Way campaign in the southeast.
The company raised $114,937.52 last fall through the campaign. Employees collected $62,810, and the corporation provided another $45,927.52, for a total amount of $108,737.52.
United Way Estevan will receive $38,138.34 of the money that was raised, while the remaining $70,599.18 will be distributed to other United Ways, and to numerous other donor-designated non-profit agencies.
The support from Ensign brings the grand total for the United Way Estevan's 2012 campaign to $492,777.35. Included in that total is the $70,000-plus that will be distributed to the other organizations.
Ensign employees raised the money through rig challenge fundraisers and other initiatives. Rig No. 4 brought in the most money with $25,000; each member of that rig team received a Garman GPS.
One person from that rig had the chance to win a $1,500 travel voucher. Wayne Kolb was the winner.
Rig No. 28 was second with $10,110. Marco Reiter, who works on the rig, won a remote-controlled car. Rig No. 50 was third with $5,505.
All participants from all the rigs were entered for a draw for a big screen television and an iPad II.
Local companies stepped forward to donate the prizes, reducing expenses for Ensign during the campaign.
Ensign staff hosted a campaign kick-off barbecue in September that raised money for the Oxbow Ball Diamonds. The barbecue generated $3,100, and the company then matched that amount, for total support of $6,200. The $6,200 is included in the $114,937.52 for the campaign.
