The Estevan Bantam Female Chargers hockey team defeated Weyburn 5-1 on February 4 in Estevan to win Game 1 of a two-game, total-goal series.
After a scoreless first period, the two teams traded goals in the opening minutes of the second. Michaella Matthies scored Estevan's first goal. Then midway through the second, with the game tied at 1-1, Matthies scored again to make the score 2-1. Mariah McKersie tallied before the end of the second to extend Estevan's lead to 3-1.
McKersie added two more goals in the third.
Letisha Spittal was the winning goaltender.
Estevan will be in Weyburn for Game 2 on February 7.
The Chargers are comprised of players from the Power Dodge Chargers and the Dayman Trucking Bulldogs.

The Power Dodge Chargers clinched the regular season title in the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League with an 8-2 rout of the South West Cyclones on February 2.
The Cyclones scored once in the first and added another goal early in the second for a 2-0 lead, but the Chargers scored eight unanswered goals. Megan LeBlanc finished with three goals and two assists, and McKersie had two goals and two helpers.
Kailey McLellan, Taylor Currie and Teanna Michel had the other goals.
Matthies and Allie Butler had three helpers each.
Tamara Irwin was in goal.
The Power Dodge Chargers have a record in league play of 22-1-2. They will finish the regular season with a home game February 11 against the Weyburn Athletics. Game time is 7:15 p.m. at Spectra Place.

The Bulldogs split their most recent league games.
Estevan defeated the Regina Wings 5-2 on the road on February 1. (Goal scorers for that game were not available).
Their next game was a 5-3 loss against the Southwest Cyclones on February 3. Julia Sibley, Jenna Grube and Jenna Kreklewich were the Bulldogs' goal scorers.
Spittal was in goal for both games.
The Bulldogs' record in league play is 18-3-4, and they have one league game remaining: February 12 in Weyburn against the Athletics.

The Estevan Baxter Midget A Cougars won once and tied twice in a four-day span.
The Cougars played the league-leading Fort Qu'Appelle Flyers to a 4-4 draw on February 1. Estevan led 3-0 after the first period on goals by Rayna Gibson, Mackenzie Ronyk and Brooklyn Dukart. After a scoreless second period, the Flyers tied the game with three goals in the third.
Cassidy Siebert gave the Cougars the lead with a goal with a few minutes to play in the third, but the Flyers tied the game again with 50 seconds remaining.
The Cougars' next game was a 2-2 tie against the Regina Panthers. Paige Collopy and Cheyenne Grant were the goal scorers.
Estevan had goals from six different players – Collopy, Siebert, Ronyk, Hailey Dukart, Shayla Mosley and Brooklyn Dukart – in a 6-4 win over the Weyburn Oilers on February 4.
Brianna Cote was in goal against Fort Qu'Appelle and Weyburn. Veronique Poirier was the goalie versus the Panthers.
The Cougars' record is 10-6-4 in league play.
Their next action is a provincial game against Weyburn on February 13 in Yellow Grass. Estevan leads the two-game, total-goal series 4-1.
