Council attendance report released

Roy Ludwig and Brian Johnson had the best attendance among those who were part of Estevan City Council throughout 2012.

Ludwig and Johnson missed just one of the 33 Council meetings held last year.

The figures were released by City Hall on January 31.

Ludwig, a long-time councillor, was elected as mayor in the October 2012 civic election. The only meeting he missed was an open meeting in July due to a vacation.

Johnson, who has been a councillor since 2000, missed a meeting in August, also due to a vacation.

The other two members of council who served throughout 2012 also had excellent attendance records.

Councillor Dennis Moore missed just two meetings last year – a committee meeting and an open meeting in February – due to a vacation. Councillor Chris Istace missed just one meeting prior to October's election. It was an open meeting in August, when Istace was on holidays.

Istace has missed three meetings since the election, all due to work reasons. He wasn't at a committee meeting in November, and he wasn't at two budget meetings in December.

Former mayor Gary St. Onge, who retired from civic politics in October, missed the two open meetings and a committee meeting in January due to a vacation. He didn't miss another meeting until he retired in October.

Lynn Chipley, who spent two terms on council, but was defeated in the mayoral race in October, missed six meetings. She was listed as sick for three meetings, on vacation for two and working for the other.

Rodney Beatty, who spent a term on council, but was defeated in the councillor race in October, missed 15 of the 26 meetings prior to the election. He was listed as sick for eight of those missed meetings, and absent for five more. He was also away for work once, and on vacation once.

Councillors Lori Carr, Greg Hoffort and Kevin Smith – who were elected to join council in October – didn't miss a meeting following the election.
