Two people were killed February 2 in a fatal collision that involved three vehicles south of Carlyle.
A car that had been travelling southbound on Highway 9 was stopped at the junction of Highways 9 and 361; it was waiting to turn left onto 361. The car was struck from behind by a southbound truck. The car was then pushed into the oncoming northbound lane, and struck by a northbound truck.
Two female adult passengers who were in the car, ages 67 and 25, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Two occupants in the front row of the car were both injured. The 36-year-old male driver was transported by STARS to the Regina Hospital. The passenger, a 26-year-old male, was taken to the Oxbow Health Centre.
One of the trucks had two occupants, and another truck had one person inside. They were not injured in the collision.
Road and weather conditions are believed to be contributing factors in the collision.
There was a blowing snow advisory for much of the day on February 2, and many highways in the southeast had "travel not recommended" advisories.
The Carlyle RCMP, Carlyle EMS, and fire departments from Carlyle, Oxbow and Alameda responded to the collision, along with a collision analyst from Virden, Manitoba.
The names of the victims are not being released, pending notification of next of kin.
An investigation into the collision is continuing to determine all of the contributing factors.
