Chargers win all-Estevan battle

Kailey McLellan scored her second of the game with just over a minute remaining in the third period to lift the Estevan Power Dodge Bantam A Chargers to a 2-1 victory over the Estevan Dayman Trucking Bulldogs in South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League (SSFHL) Bantam A action on January 29.

McLellan scored late in the first period to open the scoring. The Chargers held a 1-0 lead until midway through the third, when Jenna Grube scored to tie the game.

It remained tied until McLellan's second goal of the contest.

Tamara Irwin was in goal for the Chargers. Litesha Spittal was the goalie for the Bulldogs.

The Chargers lead the SSFHL's Bantam A division with a 21-1-2 record. They'll host the Southwest Cyclones on February 2 at 4:45 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium.

The Bulldogs played twice prior to the game versus the Chargers. They defeated the Weyburn Athletics 3-1 January 23 in Arcola, and the Springside Lions 3-2 in a January 26 road game.

Hannah Battersby, Shania Taylor and Jenna Kreklewich scored for the Bulldogs against Weyburn.

Kreklewich scored twice, including the game-winner early in the third period, in the Bulldogs' victory over Springside. Grube had the other goal.

Spittal was in goal for the win.

The Bulldogs' record is 17-2-4. They'll visit the Regina Red Wings on February 1, and host the South West Cyclones on February 3 at 12:45 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium.

The Estevan Baxter Midget A Cougars opened their quest for a provincial title with a 4-1 victory over the Weyburn Oilers on January 28.

It was Game 1 of a two-game, total-goal series.

In league play, the Cougars lost twice on the road to the Diefenbaker Thunder: 2-1 on January 26 and 7-1 on January 27.

Brooklyn Dukart had the Cougars' lone goal in both games versus the Thunder.

Brianna Cote was in goal in the first game, and Veronique Poirier was the goalie for the second contest.

The Cougars' record is 9-6-2. They'll visit the league-leading Fort Qu'Appelle Flyers February 1, and then host Weyburn on February 2 at 7 p.m., and the Regina Panthers at 6 p.m. on February 3. The home games will be at the Civic.
