Women of Today nominations being accepted

Last year's Women of Today Award winners were: (L-R) Linda Murphy, Kelci Little, Wanda Harron and Dr. Sarah Sliva.

Nominations are now being accepted for the SaskPower/Quota International of Estevan Women of Today Awards.

"Each day, women contribute hours of dedication, hard work and productivity to our workforce, schools (and) community," states the nomination form. "These awards recognize those who have demonstrated exceptional skills and made outstanding contributions."

Four awards will be handed out once again this year. The first is the SaskPower Outstanding Contribution to the Workplace Award, which goes to a woman who does all she can to improve the workplace and make it more cooperative.

The second is the Ida Petterson Memorial Award for Outstanding Entrepreneur, which is presented to a woman who has excelled in the business community. The award's namesake, Petterson, was one of Estevan's most prominent entrepreneurs. Petterson was also the first female to be elected as mayor of a Saskatchewan city.

The Shirley Orsted Memorial award for Young Woman of Today honours a woman between the ages of 15 and 21 who demonstrates the capacity for leadership, and makes a significant contribution to her school and the community. It's named after Orsted, who was a long-time educator locally and a founder of the local Quota club.

The final award is the SaskTel Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community. It recognizes a woman who has made a significant contribution to improving the lives of the citizens of Estevan in either a paid position or a volunteer capacity.

The deadline to file nomination papers is Sunday, March 4. The forms are available at the Estevan Lifestyles office, and at other locations in the community. Nominators can submit any information that they feel is applicable about the award candidates.

Nominees will be revealed at an event after the nomination deadline.

The recipients of the awards will be announced during a luncheon on Wednesday, April 24 at 11:30 a.m. at the Wylie Mitchell Building.
