Canadian photographer Nathalie Daoust's exhibit “Frozen in Time” is currently on display at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum's Gallery 1.
Daoust created the series of images during a residency exchange in Switzerland. According to her artist statement, they are set in an ambiguous world where dream and reality clash, and memory and introspection are juxtaposed to create tensions between what is real and what is imagined.
“Daoust's photographs allow her to consciously reconstruct a time in her past, piece-by-piece, filling the gaps in her memory with visual portrayals of fantasy depicting talks based on real events,” the statement says.
The narrative that evolves throughout the works is personal, the statement said. It's a journey of self-scrutiny that moves towards coming to terms with one's identity through life experiences, loss and sorrow, but also pleasure.
“Frozen in Time” will remain at Gallery 1 until January 31.
