The Midale Mustangs remain atop the Big 6 Hockey League's standings, but by the most narrow of margins.
Midale (13-6-1) has 27 points, which is one more than the Bienfait Coalers (13-2). But Midale has just one game remaining this season, while Bienfait has six to play.
The Carnduff Red Devils (9-5-1, 19 points) moved into third place with a 5-4 win over Midale on January 22. They leapfrogged the Wawota Flyers (9-6), who sit fourth with 18 points.
The Arcola-Kisbey Combines and the Redvers Rockets are tied for fifth with 15 points, thanks to identical 7-8-1 records. The Oxbow Huskies are seventh at 4-10-1, and the Carlyle Cougars are eighth at 2-10-1.
Teams have been busy as the Big 6 is in the final month of the regular season. Midale defeated Redvers 5-3 in the lone game on January 16.
Two games were played on January 18: Wawota edged Redvers 5-4 in a shootout, and Arcola-Kisbey bested Midale 4-3. Three more contests occurred on January 19: Bienfait shut out Arcola-Kisbey 7-0, Redvers defeated Carlyle 4-1, and Carnduff doubled up on Wawota 4-2.
Two high-scoring games were played on January 20: Midale routed Carlyle 10-4 and Carnduff outscored Oxbow 10-6. Bienfait won 5-2 over Arcola-Kisbey on January 21.
Two games are scheduled for January 26: Wawota at Bienfait and Midale at Arcola-Kisbey. The latter game will be the final regular season contest for the Mustangs. Carnduff will visit Oxbow on January 27.
Three more games will be played on January 29: Bienfait at Carnduff, Redvers at Wawota and Carlyle at Arcola-Kisbey. Oxbow visits Carlyle on January 30.
